The Modern School Movement (MEM) celebrated in 2005 40 years of activity as “the most systematic continuous training of teachers in Portugal”. (Estrela, Nóvoa, 1998)
“School sets for teachers of the The Modern School Movement as a space of cooperation and solidarity of a democratic life.
In it, learners should create with their educators the material, affective and social conditions so that, in common, they can organize an institutional environment capable of helping each one to appropriate the knowledge, processes and moral aesthetic values generated by Humanity in its historical and cultural course”. (Niza, Modelos Curriculares para a Educação de Infância)
This model is organized around three concepts with profound repercussions on the teaching-learning act: communication circuits, educational cooperation structures and direct democratic participation. (Niza, 2007)
